Law enforcement officers fanned out across Jackson on Monday and raided vape shops in a sweep that played out in broad daylight, with marked units and flashing lights drawing crowds and cameras at shop after shop.

Witnesses photographed officers outside Vape Empire on Old Canton Road in northeast Jackson, where a marked sport utility vehicle sat on the street with its blue lights running while people stood at the shop entrance. Across the County Line Road corridor, witnesses and live local coverage reported federal, state and local authorities at Magnolia Wholesale Vapor and Wellness.

People watching the sweep unfold said it did not stop at two doors. One witness reported officers moving on to another shop, BP Vape Shop, as the afternoon went on, and another Jackson resident posted that police were hitting vape stores across North Jackson, with at least two locations targeted and word of more moving through the day.

Major Takeaways

  • Federal, state and local authorities took part in Monday raids on vape shops in Jackson, including Vape Empire on Old Canton Road and Magnolia Wholesale Vapor and Wellness off County Line Road.
  • Witnesses reported the sweep moving from shop to shop through the afternoon, with additional stops reported in North Jackson.
  • As of publication, no agency had released what was seized, whether anyone was arrested, or what sparked the operation.
  • The raids land one year into the state directory law, which bans the sale of any vape product that is not on the state list and puts unlisted products up for seizure.

What officials have not said

By Monday afternoon, the agencies on the scene had not issued a public breakdown of the operation. That silence leaves the biggest questions open. Nobody in an official seat has said what officers carried out of the shops, whether the sweep targeted illegal drugs, unregistered vape products, or something else entirely, and whether any shop owner or worker was taken into custody.

What is documented is the pattern. Mississippi has been tightening the vise on vape shops for more than a year, and Monday looked like the most visible show of force yet inside the capital city.

The law hanging over every shop

The state directory law, passed as House Bill 916, changed the ground under every vape counter in Mississippi. Since October 1, 2025, a vape product can only be sold in this state if it appears on the official directory kept by the Department of Revenue. Products left off the list cannot be sold at all, and the law gives the department, the Attorney General, and law enforcement the power to seize, forfeit, and destroy them.

The law effectively limits legal sales to products from a short list of federally authorized makers, which wiped most flavored disposable vapes off Mississippi shelves overnight. Shops across the state have complained that enforcement lands unevenly, and at least one Delta shop owner said agents seized even empty display devices during a raid on his store.

Not the first Mississippi vape raid

Monday’s sweep follows a string of enforcement actions across the state. In September, agents in Oxford seized more than 500 units of kratom products along with THC cartridges and gummies from a shop near the University of Mississippi campus, and two workers from that shop now face federal drug charges. In October, a multi agency drug investigation in Marshall County brought three arrests tied to vape and smoke shops.

State narcotics officials have warned for years about what moves through some of these counters, from counterfeit vape cartridges to synthetic products dressed up as legal hemp or CBD goods. Whether Monday’s Jackson raids belong to that fight or to the directory crackdown is exactly what officials have not yet explained.

One raided shop was already on the city’s radar

Vape Empire, the Old Canton Road shop in the Monday photographs, has been open only a few months. The shop began selling tobacco, cigars, electronic cigarettes, and CBD products in June, and by August the city of Jackson had sent the business a zoning violation letter saying it never applied for the use permit its location required. That fight was about paperwork. Monday’s visit was something else entirely, and the city has not said whether the two matters connect.

Urban City Podcast will update this story as agencies release the details of the operation, including what was seized and whether charges follow. If you saw the raids or work at one of the shops, we want to hear from you through our contact page.
