Because Monday night gave us everything!!
NFL playoff drama
College football destiny
And an NBA slate that reminded everybody why this league stays unpredictable

So let’s not waste time
Let’s start where everybody was glued to their screen

NFL Wild Card Monday Night

The Houston Texans went into Pittsburgh and did something no Houston team has ever done in franchise history
They won a road playoff game

Not just won
They STOPMED THAT ASS!!!!

Thirty to six!!!!
And I need you to sit with that for a second
Because Pittsburgh does not lose like that in January
Not at home
Not in prime time
Not with their defense!

And yet here we are

This game was over before most people even finished their second beer

Houston did not win this game with fireworks
They won it with something far scarier
Control

They controlled the tempo
They controlled the field
And they controlled the Steelers in a way that made this feel less like a playoff game and more like a football lesson

Now yes C J Stroud threw some ugly balls
Yes he put it in harm’s way
But the Texans defense stepped in and said relax we got you

Two defensive touchdowns
One fumble return
One pick six
And Pittsburgh never mentally recovered

This is what happens when a defense smells fear

And Pittsburgh smelled scared

You could see it in Aaron Rodgers’ eyes
Every time the pocket collapsed
Every time that Houston front got through
He started checking the rush instead of the receivers

That is the moment when a quarterback stops being dangerous

Rodgers is a legend
He is a first ballot Hall of Famer
But Father Time does not care

And Houston made him look every bit his age
This was a beatdown baby!

Houston did not ask Pittsburgh what they wanted to do
They told them!

And that is playoff football being played

Now what does this mean going forward

It means the Texans are real
Not surprising
Not plucky

oh baby they’re real!!!

Ten straight wins
A defense that scores
An offense that does not panic
And now they get New England

And let me say this clearly
If Houston plays that brand of football again
There is nobody in the AFC that wants them in their building

NOBODY!!!

College Football Playoff Semifinals January 10

Let us move to Saturday because college football fans were eating good

The Peach Bowl
Indiana versus Oregon

And if you blinked
You missed Indiana announcing itself as a national title threat

Fifty six to twenty two

That was not a game
That was a statement

Indiana did not just beat Oregon
They erased Oregon

Speed
Physicality
Execution
Discipline

Everything Indiana did screamed championship team

This is what people do not want to admit
Indiana is not riding luck
They are riding dominance

They are fifteen and zero
They are deep
They are confident
And they play like a team that knows exactly who they are

Oregon tried to get fancy
Indiana punched them in the mouth

That is football

And on the other side you had Miami versus Ole Miss

A thriller
Thirty one to twenty seven

Miami bent but did not break
Ole Miss had chances
They had momentum
They had windows

But Miami had poise

That is the difference in January
Poise!

Now look at this championship matchup
Indiana
Miami

Nobody had that on their preseason bingo card

And yet here we are

This is what the expanded playoff promised us
New blood
New storylines
And no more gatekeeping

Indiana has been flawless
Miami has been gritty

This is going to be a classic
And I am telling you right now
This game will not be decided by flash

It will be decided by who blinks first

NBA Monday January 12

Now let’s talk hoops

The Dallas Mavericks took care of business against the Brooklyn Nets
One hundred thirteen to one hundred five

And yes
We are talking about Cooper Flagg again

Twenty seven points
Defense
Steals
Leadership

This kid is not just talented
He is comfortable

Dallas looks dangerous
They look balanced
They look hungry

And Brooklyn looks… well… Brooklyn. Shout outs to my Brooklyn peeps!

Trying to find itself
Trying to stay relevant
Trying to figure out if this is a rebuild or a holding pattern

And that is the NBA in January
Half the league is dreaming
Half the league is doubting

But the Mavericks are believing

Big Picture

This is why I love this time of year

The NFL is ruthless
The college game is magical
And the NBA is quietly heating up

Houston is not afraid
Indiana is not flinching
Miami is not backing down
And Dallas is finding its rhythm

This is what champions look like
Not perfect
But fearless

And that is what sports is all about
