Major Takeaways

Audi will build its first plant in the United States near Macon, Georgia, a 4.2 billion dollar bet on American buyers.

The Audi Georgia plant is planned for about 4,500 jobs and 200,000 SUVs a year at full strength.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, and production is not expected until the early 2030s.

For Black families across Middle Georgia, the promise is real, but the paychecks are still years away.

1. The Audi Georgia Plant Announcement in Perry

The Audi Georgia plant became national news on Saturday in Perry, Georgia.

President Donald Trump announced the deal at a campaign rally at Guardian Centers of Georgia.

Audi chief executive Gernot Döllner joined him on stage to confirm the plan in person.

Trump told the crowd the plant will produce 200,000 cars a year.

“Think of that. 200,000 cars a year. That is incredible,” Trump said.

Döllner said the Georgia site will build the company largest and most premium SUVs.

“This is a long term investment, because we believe in the American market,” Döllner said.

Audi is the German luxury brand owned by Volkswagen.

Every Audi sold in the United States today is imported from Europe or Mexico.

The Georgia plant would be the first Audi car plant on American soil.

2. What the Plant Means for Macon and Middle Georgia

The planned site sits at the Middle Georgia Megasite in Peach County, near Macon.

Macon is a majority Black city with deep roots in music, faith and hard work.

A plant of this size does not just hire people to build SUVs.

It pulls in suppliers, truck drivers, cafeterias, child care and small shops nearby.

Black owned businesses across Middle Georgia will be watching the contract lists closely.

So will technical colleges that train welders, electricians and robotics technicians.

About 4,500 jobs at full production would rank among the biggest prizes in state history.

Georgia governor candidate Rick Jackson was at the rally and thanked Trump for the plans.

Jackson called it the biggest economic deal in Georgia history.

His race against former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is one of the closest in the state. Read our coverage of the Georgia governor race and Black voters.

3. The Timeline Is Longer Than the Campaign

Here is the part of the story that matters most for families making plans today.

Audi says construction is scheduled to begin in 2027.

Production is expected to begin in the early 2030s.

That means no Georgia built Audi rolls off the line during this election cycle.

It also means the first hiring wave for plant jobs is still years away.

The announcement landed ten days before the November 3 midterm elections.

Georgia is a battleground, and both parties are fighting for every vote in the state.

Trump used the rally to boost Republican candidates, including Representative Mike Collins.

Collins is trying to unseat Senator Jon Ossoff in one of the most watched races in America.

Voters can welcome the investment and still ask hard questions about the wait. Stay with our News coverage as the races tighten.

4. Tariffs Sit at the Center of the Deal

Trump credited his tariff policies for bringing Audi to Georgia.

The numbers show why Audi had strong reasons to listen.

Tariffs cost Audi about 1.2 billion euros last year, roughly 1.4 billion dollars.

Audi sales in the United States are down 16 percent this year.

Worldwide sales fell 7 percent in the first half of 2026.

Building in Georgia would shield the company biggest SUVs from import taxes.

The models planned for the site are the Q7, the Q8 and the Q9.

Critics of the tariff strategy argue the same duties have raised car prices for buyers.

That tension hits Black families twice, at the dealership and at the grocery store.

Higher prices on cars, parts and goods squeeze budgets that are already stretched thin.

5. What Black Georgia Should Watch Next

The plant is a promise, and promises deserve follow through.

Watch for the training pipeline, and ask who gets access to those programs first.

Watch the supplier deals, and ask whether Black owned firms win a fair share.

Watch local hiring goals in Peach County and the counties around Macon.

Watch land, traffic and housing costs near the site as construction draws closer.

Middle Georgia has carried big promises before, and residents know the difference between a headline and a paycheck.

If Audi delivers, thousands of families could build real wealth around steady plant wages.

If the timeline slips, voters will remember who sold the deal and when.

Either way, the story now belongs to the people of Middle Georgia.

They will decide whether this plant becomes a turning point or just another rally moment. More stories that matter live at Urban City Podcast.
