How the killing of Renee Good forced America to confront federal force, immigrant fear, and what happens when government power collides with everyday people on city streets.

Good evening. This is Big Back Politics Live and I am Denise Milsap on urbancitypodcast.com and trhe Urban City Podcast App! . And tonight I am not here to soothe you! I am here to wake you the hell up.

Because if a woman can be shot in the face by a federal agent on a city street and the government can shrug and say “justified,” then this country is in some deep, dangerous shit.

Her name was Renee Good.
Thirty-seven years old.
A U.S. citizen.
Shot dead by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.

And the federal government wants you to believe she was a terrorist.

Let that poison sit in your mouth for a second.
A woman sitting in her car was labeled a terrorist after she was killed so the people who killed her could sleep better at night.

That is not law enforcement.
That is propaganda.

Now let me say something real slow for the folks who still believe every damn government press release.
When a government starts calling unarmed civilians terrorists, it is not trying to tell the truth.
It is trying to control the narrative.

This happened in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Not a border crossing.
Not a cartel hideout.
Not some battlefield.
An American city. With families, with kids, with people walking dogs and going to work.

Federal immigration agents rolled into that city in massive numbers, no coordination, no respect for local leadership, no concern for the people who actually live there. They came in like they owned the place.

And that arrogance got somebody killed.

Renee Good was in her vehicle. Agents surrounded her. One of them opened her door. Multiple armed people were standing around her. Anybody with a heartbeat would be scared in that moment. And when her car moved, instead of backing off, instead of stepping away, instead of trying to de-escalate, an ICE agent pulled his gun and fired.

They didn’t shoot the tire.
They didn’t shoot the engine.
They didn’t shoot a window.

They shot her in the face.

You don’t do that by accident.
You do that when you have decided that the person in front of you is disposable.

And then the government had the nerve to smear her after she was dead. To call her dangerous. To call her a threat. To call her a terrorist.

Well you know what I say? Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice EVERYWHERE!
How could this happen in a place thats supposed to be the greatest country on this planet? HOW??

Is that is how this system works?
First they kill you.
Then they assassinate your character.
Then they dare your family and your community to prove you deserved to live.

But here is the problem for them.

We saw the video.

We saw how the car was moving.
We saw where the agent was standing.
We saw that this was not some Hollywood action scene where a car was barreling down on a line of officers.

This was a woman boxed in by armed federal agents trying to get out of a terrifying situation.

And for that, she died.

Now ICE says the agent feared for his life.
They always say that SHIT!
Hell they said it when cops killed George Floyd!
They said it when cops killed Breonna Taylor!
They say it EVERY SINGLE time a badge turns a human being into a body on the pavement!

Fear is the universal excuse for killing people in this country.

But fear does not erase responsibility.
Fear does not justify execution.
Fear does not give you the right to end a life because someone made a move you didn’t like.

Minneapolis leaders didn’t buy the story.
The mayor didn’t buy the story.
The governor didn’t buy the story.
The people who live there damn sure didn’t buy the story.

They called bullshit.
And they were right.

Because this shooting was not an isolated incident. It was the predictable result of a federal government that has decided it can deploy armed agents into American cities like it’s conducting military operations.

Thousands of ICE agents poured into Minneapolis.
Neighborhoods were flooded with unmarked vehicles and armed personnel.
People were afraid to leave their homes.
Families were on edge.

And when you mix fear, guns, and unchecked power, somebody gets hurt.

This time it was Renee Good.

And let me make this plain for anybody listening.

She was not undocumented.
She was not being arrested.
She was not wanted.
She was not accused of anything.

She was there.

That was her crime.

Being present.
Being a witness.
Being a citizen in a place where the federal government decided to flex its muscle.

If that does not scare you, you are not paying attention.

Because if a U.S. citizen can be killed by a federal agent for being near an ICE operation, then the line between “target” and “bystander” has disappeared.

That means you.
That means me.
That means anybody who happens to be in the wrong place when power decides it is feeling jumpy.

This is not just about immigration.
This is about federal power.

This is about what happens when agencies that were created to handle paperwork and enforcement suddenly behave like armed occupiers in American neighborhoods.

ICE was never designed to be a community-policing organization.
They were designed to detain and deport.

So when you give them guns, authority, and zero accountability inside cities, you get tragedies.

And then you get lies.

Because the government knows that if people saw this for what it was, there would be hell to pay.

So they say terrorist.
They say threat.
They say danger.

And they hope you stop asking questions.

Well Big Back Politics Live is not stopping.

Because Renee Good cannot speak anymore.
So we will speak for her.

Because her family deserves the truth.
Her community deserves the truth.
And this country deserves to know what is being done in its name.

Minneapolis has already carried the weight of law enforcement violence. That city knows what it feels like when a life is taken and excuses come after. Now federal agents have written their own ugly chapter in that history.

And if they get away with it, they will do it again.

Because power without accountability always does.

So here is what I am telling you to do.

Do not let this fade.
Do not let them bury this.
Do not let them rewrite this.

Call your representatives.
Demand hearings.
Demand independent investigations.
Demand body camera footage.
Demand names.
Demand consequences.

Because if a federal agent can shoot a citizen in the face and walk away, then none of us are as free as we think we are.

This is Denise Milsap on urbancitypodcast.com and the Urban City Podcast App.
This is Big Back Politics Live! Stay locked in!

And we are NOT letting this go!!! Yall stay blessed…

Urgent Facts About SNAP Rightsizing and Structural Changes After the Shutdown In 2026

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, better known as SNAP, is standing in the middle of one of the biggest shakeups it has seen in decades. More than forty two million Americans rely on these benefits every month. But after the recent forty three day government shutdown, the program is being pushed into what federal officials are calling rightsizing and structural changes.

That is political speak for a whole lot of uncertainty.

SNAP is already a massive program. A typical month costs around nine billion dollars. When the shutdown hit, the Department of Agriculture had only about six billion dollars available in its contingency fund. That meant the department could not fully fund the program even if it wanted to. After legal pressure and internal debate, federal officials chose to release roughly half the money needed for the month. That meant millions of people received partial benefits or faced delays as states scrambled to adjust their systems.

To make matters worse, new applicants were told they would not receive benefits for the month at all since the department was only covering existing recipients. Some states warned residents that their cards might not reload on time. Others advised families to prepare for smaller payments than usual. A few even explained that they might not be reimbursed if they tried to front the cost themselves.

This created a ripple effect. Delayed benefits turned into empty shelves. Working parents who budget down to the penny suddenly had to stretch even harder. Community food banks were already strained before the shutdown. After it, many were overwhelmed.

Then came the next shoe to drop.

Federal officials began talking openly about the need to rethink the SNAP program from top to bottom. Instead of temporary “shutdown adjustments,” they argued the system requires permanent structural repairs. The phrase rightsizing became the centerpiece of every interview and press briefing. According to officials, state data showed that some recipients were listed under duplicate accounts and that some individuals who had passed away were still on the rolls. They claim the only way to clean up the system is to require millions of households to reapply so officials can verify who should remain eligible.

For many families, that is not a minor ask. Reapplying means scheduling appointments, submitting documents, finding transportation, and hoping the state office has enough staff to process the backlog. For elderly residents, families with disabilities, and people living on tight schedules, a reapplication wave could push them off the program simply because they cannot navigate the process fast enough.

Behind the scenes, there is a much larger political push shaping all of this. Congress is considering a wide ranging budget package that would reshape how SNAP operates over the next decade. The proposals include tighter work requirements for adults up to age sixty four, new restrictions on who qualifies as part of a household, and a shift that forces states to pay a portion of the actual food benefit cost. That is a dramatic change. If states cannot afford it, they might cut benefits or reduce enrollment.

Analysts studying the proposals warn that more than twenty million families could be affected. Some would lose at least twenty five dollars a month. Others might lose eligibility entirely. Many of the families expected to be hit the hardest are working households, single parents, and older Americans who already rely on SNAP to fill the gap between income and rising food prices.

Critics argue that these structural changes could increase hunger nationwide. They warn that forcing states to shoulder costs could lead to benefits being slashed during recessions or budget shortfalls. Some advocates say the reapplication requirement is less about catching fraud and more about pushing people out of the program through paperwork burdens.

Supporters of reform insist the changes are necessary to make the program more efficient. They argue that tightening eligibility, increasing work requirements, and asking states to share responsibility will reduce waste and improve accountability. They say the program has grown too large and needs to be brought back to what they describe as its original purpose.

The truth is that both sides know exactly what is at stake. SNAP is not just a budget item. It is a lifeline. Millions of families plan their entire food budget around their monthly benefit load. When the system shakes, their pantries shake with it.

The next round of announcements is expected soon, and states will have to prepare for whatever new rules come down. That means new systems, new paperwork, new rules for eligibility, and possibly new legal fights over how far the federal government can go.

While the political world debates numbers and formulas, regular people are simply trying to eat. They are trying to feed their kids. They are trying to stretch a dollar in an economy where groceries have risen faster than wages for years.

For Urban City readers and listeners, this story matters because the impact hits close to home. SNAP is widely used across urban neighborhoods, rural communities, and everywhere in between. Empty fridges lead to tough decisions. Tough decisions lead to real stress. And real stress hits families and communities harder than any debate on the Senate floor.

So here is the bottom line. SNAP is about to change. The shutdown revealed just how fragile the support structure really is. Now federal leaders say they want to reshape the program permanently. Whether those changes strengthen or weaken the safety net depends on what happens in the coming months.

What is clear is that millions of people who rely on SNAP should be paying attention. Rightsizing is a nice word, but it does not put food on the table. Structural changes sound orderly, but the impact could be chaotic on the ground. And when the dust settles, the country might end up with a very different version of the program that has fed Americans for more than sixty years.

Powerful Facts About the Government Reopening and What It Means for Americans

After weeks of heated political battles and finger-pointing across party lines, the United States government is officially back open for business. Federal workers are returning to their offices, agencies are resuming services, and the ripple effects of the shutdown are starting to settle. But for millions of Americans, the question remains: what really happened, and what happens next?

This reopening follows a tense stretch of negotiations that pushed the country to the edge of economic uncertainty. The temporary resolution may have ended the immediate crisis, but it exposed deep divisions in Congress and raised serious concerns about how government gridlock is affecting regular people especially those in working and middle-class communities.

For many, this latest political showdown was more than just another headline. It was a reminder that decisions made in Washington have real consequences on Main Street.

What Led to the Shutdown

The conflict began when lawmakers failed to agree on a federal spending bill before the deadline. Disagreements over budget priorities particularly in areas like border security, public health funding, and social safety nets created a stalemate that lasted weeks. As negotiations dragged on, federal agencies began running out of money, leading to partial shutdowns that impacted hundreds of thousands of workers.

While both parties pointed fingers, the effects trickled down to everyone from small business owners waiting on federal loans to families dependent on food assistance programs. Many Americans saw it as another example of political dysfunction in Washington leaders too focused on power plays and not enough on problem-solving.

For context, the federal government employs more than two million civilian workers, and when a shutdown happens, many of them are either furloughed or forced to work without pay. Air traffic controllers, TSA agents, and national park staff were among those who reported working through the uncertainty. For others, the shutdown meant canceled paychecks, delayed benefits, and lost economic activity in their communities.

The Human Toll of Political Games

While Washington debated, families across the country struggled. In cities like Atlanta, Detroit, and Houston, federal workers stood in food lines, relying on community pantries to feed their children. Rent payments were missed, car notes were delayed, and credit cards became lifelines.

In Jackson, Mississippi, where federal offices play a key role in the local economy, the shutdown’s impact hit close to home. Many families had to tighten budgets, delay payments, or lean on relatives to get by. Local business owners also reported a dip in foot traffic and spending.

“It’s like everything stopped at once,” said one federal employee who requested anonymity. “You keep hoping Congress will figure it out, but after a while, you realize you’re just a pawn in a game you didn’t sign up for.”

The economic damage goes beyond paychecks. When government spending halts, it affects contracts, construction projects, and even school programs tied to federal grants. The longer a shutdown lasts, the more it chips away at public trust.

How the Deal Finally Happened

The breakthrough came after late-night negotiations between congressional leaders and the White House, which resulted in a short-term spending agreement. The deal funds the government through early next year, giving lawmakers more time to hash out long-term budget issues.

While the compromise avoided further damage, it’s more of a band-aid than a cure. Both parties made concessions, but few believe this marks the end of fiscal fights in Washington. The same issues that caused the shutdown budget priorities, spending limits, and ideological divisions are still unresolved.

Political analysts say the reopening was driven largely by public pressure. As polls showed frustration with both parties, lawmakers were forced to act. Many voters viewed the standoff as reckless, especially given the fragile state of the economy.

The Economic Ripple Effect

Shutdowns aren’t just political theater they carry real economic consequences. Analysts estimate that each week of government closure costs the U.S. economy billions in lost productivity and spending. Federal workers often spend their paychecks in local communities, and when those paychecks disappear, small businesses feel the pain.

In Washington, D.C., where government jobs make up a large portion of the workforce, restaurants and shops saw sharp declines in sales. But the ripple effects reached everywhere from contractors in Alabama to farmers in Iowa waiting on crop payments. Airports also faced long lines and delays as staffing shortages grew worse.

The recovery process, experts say, will take time. Even though back pay has been authorized for federal employees, it doesn’t erase the stress, uncertainty, or financial strain caused by weeks without income. And contractors who make up a significant portion of the federal workforce won’t receive compensation for lost workdays.

The Bigger Picture: A Dysfunctional Congress

What’s become clear is that shutdowns are no longer rare. In fact, they’ve become a bargaining tool in partisan battles over everything from immigration policy to healthcare spending. This latest episode underscores just how polarized American politics has become and how ordinary citizens are often the collateral damage.

In a functional democracy, budget debates should end in compromise. But in the current climate, compromise is treated like surrender. Both parties are under pressure from their bases to hold firm, even if it means the government stops functioning.

Political experts say this cycle is dangerous. Each shutdown erodes confidence in government institutions and sends a message to the world that America can’t manage its own finances. As one economist put it, “The United States can’t afford to keep turning its budget process into a hostage situation every year.”

Impact on Urban Communities

For urban communities, especially those already facing economic challenges, the shutdown’s effects are magnified. Federal programs that provide housing assistance, childcare support, and workforce development funding were delayed or disrupted. Families waiting on housing vouchers or small business loans found themselves stuck in limbo.

In cities like Chicago, Baltimore, and New Orleans, local nonprofits had to step in to fill gaps left by frozen federal services. Community food banks saw spikes in demand. Urban transit systems that rely on federal maintenance funds were forced to cut back on repairs and upgrades.

Many residents in these communities are already skeptical about government priorities. When shutdowns happen, that skepticism grows stronger. For them, the reopening isn’t just a return to normal it’s a reminder that stability shouldn’t depend on political gamesmanship.

Federal Workers Speak Out

As workers clocked back in this week, emotions ranged from relief to frustration. For some, the reopening meant finally getting paid after weeks of uncertainty. For others, it felt like a temporary fix that could fall apart again in a few months.

“We shouldn’t have to go through this every year,” said a Social Security employee in Atlanta. “It’s not fair to the people who serve the public every day.”

Unions representing federal workers echoed those concerns, calling for reforms to prevent future shutdowns. One proposed solution is automatic funding for essential services, ensuring that key programs continue even if Congress fails to reach an agreement. That idea has gained traction among both Democrats and moderate Republicans.

Small Businesses Still Recovering

Small businesses especially those near federal buildings or dependent on government contracts took a hard hit during the shutdown. Cafes, dry cleaners, and local shops saw customer counts plummet. Many owners used personal savings or short-term loans to stay afloat.

For entrepreneurs in minority and urban communities, where access to capital is already a challenge, the shutdown added another layer of difficulty. Programs like the Small Business Administration’s loan guarantees were put on hold, halting new approvals. That left startups without critical funding to grow or hire new workers.

Now that the government is open again, business owners hope relief funds and delayed payments will start flowing soon. But for many, the damage has already been done.

Political Fallout and What’s Next

The political fallout from the shutdown could have long-term consequences. Lawmakers on both sides are trying to shape the narrative each claiming they fought for the American people while blaming the other for the chaos. With elections looming, this crisis may become a key talking point for campaigns.

Public trust in Congress remains low, and voter frustration is palpable. Polls show that Americans want leaders who can work together to keep the government running, not tear each other down for political gain. Whether that message translates into action during the next budget fight remains to be seen.

The deal that reopened the government only funds it temporarily, meaning another showdown could arrive early next year if Congress fails to pass a full budget. For many Americans, that uncertainty feels exhausting.

Lessons Learned from the Shutdown

If there’s one takeaway from this entire episode, it’s that the people who keep the country running federal workers, contractors, and small business owners often pay the price for political dysfunction. The shutdown exposed how fragile the nation’s systems can be when leadership falters.

It also showed the power of public pressure. Grassroots movements, social media campaigns, and union efforts played a major role in pushing lawmakers to act. Americans demanded accountability, and that collective voice helped end the impasse.

But the lesson shouldn’t stop there. Experts say it’s time to rethink how the federal government handles budget disputes. Instead of allowing shutdowns to paralyze essential services, there should be mechanisms in place to keep the lights on while negotiations continue.

How This Affects You

For the average American, the government reopening means a return to normal operations. Tax refunds, passport applications, and federal benefit programs are back online. Federal workers will receive back pay, and contractors are resuming projects. But the broader economic effects like slowed consumer spending and delayed loans may linger for months.

If you rely on federal services or programs, expect some delays as agencies work through backlogs. The Internal Revenue Service, for example, is processing a mountain of paperwork. The Department of Housing and Urban Development is catching up on pending applications for assistance.

For cities like Jackson and Las Vegas, where government programs are tied closely to community development, the reopening offers a sense of stability. But residents remain cautious, knowing that another shutdown could easily happen again if Congress fails to act responsibly.

Final Thoughts: A Government That Works for the People

The reopening of the government isn’t just a political event it’s a test of democracy itself. When lawmakers fail to govern effectively, everyday Americans are the ones who suffer. From families missing paychecks to small businesses struggling to survive, the cost of political dysfunction is real.

For communities that depend on stability and fair representation, this moment is a call to action. It’s time to hold leaders accountable and demand a government that prioritizes the people over politics. Because at the end of the day, reopening the government shouldn’t feel like a victory it should be the bare minimum.

The Hidden Power of Religion in Culture

Have you ever considered how religion shapes cultural movements? It's like a hidden force, weaving through history and society.

Religious beliefs shape values and drive communities to act for change.

Whether it's the civil rights movement or today's social justice causes, religion influences politics, art, and identity.

It's fascinating to see its impact spread across generations.

Curious to explore more about this powerful connection and how it still resonates in urban communities?

Religious Beliefs and Cultural Identity Formation

When you think about how religious beliefs shape cultural identities, picture how rituals bring people together and build strong communities. You'll find that religious rituals create community cohesion by offering shared experiences and values. As you participate in these practices, you're contributing to cultural transmission, passing values to future generations. This process enriches identity development, giving individuals a strong sense of who they're within the community. Religion significantly influences political ideologies and movements, often shaping societal values and cultural norms. The role of community and fellowship in religious practices highlights the power of congregational support in strengthening cultural ties. Religious rituals are colorful expressions of cultural identity. They embed moral frameworks that guide behavior and interactions, leaving enduring impressions on personal and social levels. Through diverse practices, rituals present unique paths to unity and belonging. As much as 80% of Americans recognize a spiritual dimension in their lives, highlighting the pervasive influence of spirituality on cultural dynamics. So, as you explore your cultural roots, remember how these practices not only form identities but also strengthen bonds among people.

Picture a vibrant tapestry woven with threads of belief and culture; now let's see how religion influences political and social movements.

Religion often acts as a catalyst for political mobilization. By legitimizing authority through divine endorsement, it rallies masses behind leaders and causes. You see examples in the Yugoslav Wars and Syrian Civil War, where religious mobilization strategies played a significant role.

Islamic movements, like Islamism, and Christian political movements have influenced political environments profoundly.

Religion also drives social justice through faith-based activism. Martin Luther King Jr.'s use of Christian values in civil rights activism demonstrates this impact.

Religious teachings provide a moral compass, motivating individuals and institutions to challenge social injustices, shaping ethical norms that guide these movements. The synergy of prayer and meditation offers transformative role-modeling through an integrated approach to spiritual engagement, influencing cultural norms.

Religious Practices as Cultural Expressions

Religious practices aren't just rituals; they're key threads in the cultural fabric, providing a vibrant tapestry of shared meaning and identity.

When you participate in sacred customs like baptism or the five pillars of Islam, you're enjoying their ritual significance, which brings your community together and reinforces shared values.

These rituals also connect you to deeper cultural roots, symbolizing important life milestones and reflecting your community's traditions and moral teachings.

Religion and Global Artistic Influence

As you explore the profound role religion plays in shaping cultural expressions, let's shine a light on how it influences global art.

Religious symbolism and artistic collaboration have left an indelible mark on artists across ages. Historical art shows religion's power to drive creativity:

Cave paintings: You'd find spiritual themes used in rituals to reach the divine.

Christian and Buddhist iconography: Artists use imagery, like Christ on the Cross or the statues in the Ajanta Caves, for powerful storytelling.

Islamic calligraphy: Intricate designs convey messages beyond language and culture.

In today's world, where globalization connects us all, you'll see that religious pluralism is a dynamic force shaping modern society. With such diverse beliefs, modern challenges arise, like cultural tensions and the intricate pluralism dynamics.

Economic competition and resource scarcity can exacerbate religious conflicts, especially with political manipulation. You might notice how migration and urbanization affect this dynamic, creating feelings of alienation that religion often fills.

Technology and global connectivity highlight this diversity and challenge old norms, pushing for religious integration and understanding. Pluralism isn't just about division; it's also a chance to discover shared values and build vibrant communities.

Religious freedom encourages you to celebrate diversity, engage in political life, and welcome economic growth opportunities together.
