New York erases a 29-point deficit and moves within one win of its first NBA championship since 1973 after OG Anunoby’s dramatic game-winning tip-in.

The New York Knicks are one victory away from their first NBA championship in more than five decades after completing the largest comeback in NBA Finals history, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 in Game 4 on Wednesday night to seize a 3-1 series lead.

Trailing by 29 points in the third quarter after San Antonio dominated the opening half, New York mounted a relentless comeback behind Jalen Brunson’s 36 points and seven assists and a career playoff-high 33 points from OG Anunoby. With the Knicks still down one in the final seconds, Brunson’s long 3-point attempt came up short, but Anunoby raced in for a tip-in with 1.2 seconds remaining, giving New York its first lead of the night and sending Madison Square Garden into celebration.

The Spurs appeared in control after building a 76-49 halftime advantage behind hot perimeter shooting and a strong performance from Victor Wembanyama, who finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds. But San Antonio faltered after intermission, managing only 30 points in the second half while New York steadily erased the deficit with a dominant defensive effort and timely contributions from throughout its rotation.

Coach Mike Brown praised Anunoby’s game-winning play afterward, calling it one of the defining moments in franchise history. The comeback surpassed the previous record for the largest rally in an NBA Finals game and moved the Knicks within one win of their first title since 1973.

Game 5 is scheduled for Saturday in San Antonio, where the Spurs will attempt to extend the series and avoid the collapse becoming the final chapter of an otherwise impressive postseason run.

Former Magic Coach Takes Over a Franchise Searching for Stability

Urban City Digital News Desk• 6 min read

The New Orleans Pelicans have officially turned the page on another turbulent season, hiring Jamahl Mosley as the franchise’s next head coach on a reported five-year deal. The move comes only weeks after Mosley’s surprising departure from the Orlando Magic and signals that New Orleans is once again betting on player development, culture-building, and long-term stability rather than quick fixes.

For a franchise that has spent years fighting inconsistency, injuries, and unrealized expectations, this hire feels less flashy and more practical. In today’s NBA, that may actually be the smarter play.

Mosley replaces former head coach Willie Green, who was dismissed early in the 2025-26 season after the Pelicans stumbled to a disastrous 2-10 start. Assistant coach James Borrego stepped in as interim coach and attempted to steady the ship, guiding the team to a 24-46 finish. But by season’s end, it was clear the organization wanted a different voice leading the locker room.

Pelicans executive vice president Joe Dumars made it clear what attracted the organization to Mosley.

“Jamahl has earned tremendous respect across the NBA for his leadership, professionalism, and the strong relationships he develops with players and staff,” Dumars said while announcing the hire. “He has consistently demonstrated an ability to develop young talent while establishing teams that compete with toughness, discipline, and togetherness.”

That last word togetherness may be the most important part of the entire statement.

Over the last several seasons, the Pelicans have often looked like a team with talent but without identity. Injuries constantly disrupted chemistry, trade rumors created distractions, and the organization never fully established continuity around its core players. Mosley now walks into a situation that requires equal parts basketball strategy, emotional leadership, and patience.

During his five seasons in Orlando, Mosley compiled a 189-221 record, but the numbers alone do not fully tell the story. When he first arrived in Orlando, the Magic were deep in rebuilding mode and lacked direction. Under his leadership, the team slowly evolved into a playoff contender built around youth, defense, and discipline.

Orlando reached the postseason in each of the last three years under Mosley, though the team was unable to advance beyond the first round. Still, many league observers credited him with helping establish the foundation that turned the Magic into one of the Eastern Conference’s more respected young teams.

His exit from Orlando, however, was not without controversy.

The Magic’s playoff collapse against the Detroit Pistons after blowing a 3-1 series lead reportedly intensified internal tensions. There were also reports of friction between Mosley and rising superstar Paolo Banchero during parts of the season. Whether those reports were overstated or signs of deeper issues, they added intrigue to Mosley’s sudden availability on the coaching market.

Now he inherits another complicated roster situation in New Orleans.

The Pelicans finished last season with a disappointing 26-56 record despite entering the year with playoff hopes. Much of the disappointment centered around injuries once again surrounding Zion Williamson and Dejounte Murray, both of whom struggled to stay consistently available.

At this point, the conversation surrounding Zion has shifted from “future superstar” to “can this situation realistically work long term?” That may sound harsh, but NBA front offices eventually stop operating on potential and start focusing on availability. Talent has never been the issue with Williamson. Keeping him healthy and fully engaged has been the challenge that continues hanging over the franchise like a storm cloud that never leaves town.

Mosley’s biggest task may be rebuilding trust and accountability inside the organization while finding a system that maximizes Zion without placing the entire franchise on his shoulders.

The roster itself still has intriguing pieces.

Young players like Derik Queen and Jeremiah Fears give the franchise developmental upside, while veterans such as Jordan Poole and Saddiq Bey provide scoring and experience. Meanwhile, Trey Murphy III remains one of the roster’s most intriguing talents despite persistent trade rumors throughout the season.

If there is one thing Mosley proved in Orlando, it is that he can help young players mature into productive contributors. That reputation likely played a major role in New Orleans making him their top target during a coaching search that reportedly included names like Darvin Ham, Rajon Rondo, and assistant coach Steve Hetzel.

The Western Conference is brutal, unforgiving, and loaded with established contenders. There are no easy rebuilds anymore. Teams either develop quickly or get buried under the weight of expectations and bad contracts.

That is why this hire feels important beyond wins and losses.

The Pelicans are not just hiring a coach. They are trying to stabilize a franchise that has spent years hovering between promise and disappointment. Mosley’s calm demeanor, defensive mindset, and reputation for connecting with players could be exactly what the organization needs right now.

Of course, coaching alone will not solve everything. If injuries continue piling up and roster uncertainty remains unresolved, New Orleans could still find itself stuck in the same cycle that has frustrated fans for years.

But for the first time in a while, the Pelicans appear to be prioritizing structure over chaos.

And honestly, in today’s NBA, that is not a bad place to start.

How Shai Gilgeous-Alexander transformed from rising star to back-to-back NBA MVP and cemented the Oklahoma City Thunder as basketball’s next powerhouse.

Urban City Digital News Desk•

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has added another major milestone to his career, earning his second consecutive NBA Most Valuable Player award after leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to the league’s best regular-season record. He is now among a select group of players to win back-to-back MVP awards, joining names such as Nikola Jokić, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Giannis Antetokounmpo; and has also become just the 16th player in league history to earn multiple MVP trophies.

ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news, reporting: “Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won his second consecutive NBA Most Valuable Player award, becoming the 14th player in league history to win back-to-back MVPs”

The 27-year-old guard helped Oklahoma City finish 64-18 for a second straight year while putting together one of the NBA’s most efficient offensive seasons. Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.1 points per game — second only to Luka Dončić — while also contributing 6.6 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per contest. He shot 55.3% from the field, 38.6% from three-point range, and nearly 88% from the free-throw line. The Thunder star also set an NBA record with 127 consecutive games scoring at least 20 points, surpassing a mark previously held by Wilt Chamberlain.

While his scoring average dipped slightly from last season, his efficiency improved dramatically. Gilgeous-Alexander became only the second player ever, alongside Kevin Durant, to post those shooting percentages while taking more than 250 shots in a season. Along with his MVP awards, Gilgeous-Alexander’s growing résumé includes an NBA Finals MVP, multiple All-NBA First Team selections, four All-Star appearances, and the league’s Clutch Player of the Year award.

Deep Dive Into Today’s Biggest Football, Basketball, and NFL Stories

Thaddeus Myles: What’s up everybody, it’s Thaddeus Myles in the chair, ready to dig into another round of Sports Blazers you know how we get down. I’ve got my coffee, I’ve got my notes, and I’m ready to talk real sports the way grown folks talk sports!!!

Abby Clair: And I’m Abby Sinclair, mic hot, energy high, and fully prepared to ruffle a few feathers today. Every week we sit right here and break down college football, college hoops, and the NFL without sugarcoating a thing, and today we’re diving headfirst into all of it. So let’s go on and light this conversation up!!!

Thaddeus: Let’s kick it off with college football because this playoff race looks like a traffic jam on a two-lane road. This season has been pure chaos in the best way possible, and honestly, I feel like we still haven’t seen the last twist.

Abby: Oh we definitely haven’t. College football loves drama. It thrives on drama. And this year? Whew. The undefeated teams have people arguing at work, arguing in group chats, arguing with strangers online like they’re being paid for it. I’ve seen folks lose their minds defending teams they didn’t even watch until October!!

Thaddeus: And now we’ve got that Big Ten title game coming up Ohio State and Indiana, both undefeated. And don’t get it twisted, Ohio State being undefeated is not shocking at all. That’s just Ohio State doing Ohio State things. But Indiana? Indiana walked in this season like, “Oh, you forgot about us? Bet.”

Abby: This is the boldest version of Indiana football we’ve seen in a long time. Their fanbase is acting brand new, and I love it. They deserve to act brand new. If you’re undefeated right now? You earned that attitude. And this title game is going to tell us if Indiana really belongs at the grown-ups’ table!!

Thaddeus: And look if they win, they deserve every bit of credit. I don’t want to hear anybody say “strength of schedule” or “lucky breaks.” Because undefeated in a Power Five conference? You deserve a seat in the playoff. Point-blank-period.

Abby: But I’ll say this: if Ohio State plays a clean game, they’re a machine. They’re physical, they’re disciplined, and they’ve been in big, pressure-filled games for years. Indiana has heart, but Ohio State has muscle memory!

Thaddeus: I’ll give you that. But this season has been way too unpredictable for anybody to start acting like they know the script. We’ve seen top teams collapse out of nowhere. We’ve seen teams nobody talked about suddenly jump into the Top 10. I mean look at Texas Tech. Tell me ANYBODY predicted this jump.

Abby: Lies. Nobody predicted that. Their fans are out here lying on the internet saying they “felt this coming.” No they didn’t. They absolutely did not. But hey they look good, so let them lie.

Thaddeus: Georgia and Oregon making their climbs? That’s predictable. They recruit well every year. But Texas Tech entering the chat like, “Don’t forget about us”? I love it. That’s what keeps the sport fun.

Abby: It also keeps those playoff committee members sweating. You know they don’t like surprises. They want easy math. And this season took their calculator, threw it off a balcony, and told them to count on their fingers.

Thaddeus: The real chaos comes if one of those top undefeated teams gets upset. I’m talking full-on meltdown in the rankings. Fans calling for heads. Committee members hiding from the public. Sports talk shows breaking out the big red “PANIC” graphics!!!

Abby: And it could absolutely happen. Rivalry games get petty. Championship games get emotional. Teams start playing for legacy, pride, and draft tape. December football turns players into heroes or heartbreaks real fast.

Thaddeus: Speaking of heartbreak, let’s pivot to college basketball because some of these early-season losses have fanbases acting like the world is ending. I checked social media the other day and saw a grown man yelling into his camera after his team lost to a school I swear I had to Google twice.

Abby: Early-season college basketball is wild. Teams are still figuring out rotations, chemistry, who the number one scoring option is, who the freshman phenom actually is versus who’s just hype from Instagram reels. It’s organized chaos.

Thaddeus: Meanwhile Arizona is out here undefeated, looking cleaner than polished chrome. Their ball movement looks effortless. Their guards are controlling tempo. Their bigs are making smart plays. They look complete already.

Abby: Arizona looks scary legit. And not just the men the women’s team too. That’s the part people aren’t talking about enough. Arizona sports as a whole is having a glow-up. The energy around both programs feels different.

Thaddeus: And then you’ve got schools like Duke, Kansas, Michigan the usual big dogs who also look solid. But there’s no absolute favorite right now. And that’s what makes this season spicy.

Abby: You need that chaos in college hoops. If we come into a season and everybody knows who’s going to the Final Four? Boring. But when five, six, seven teams look equally dangerous? Oh, that’s the recipe for a March Madness classic.

Thaddeus: Now let’s jump over to the NFL because this league is always ready to put on a show. And nothing has shocked me more this season than the Chicago Bears sitting at 9-3 and holding that number one seed in the NFC.

Abby: I laughed at Bears fans at the start of the season — I admit it. They always come in with wild optimism like it’s a tradition. But THIS time, they actually had a point. And now? They’re terrified. They don’t know how to handle success. Every time the Bears have a lead, you can hear the entire city of Chicago breathing like they’re in labor.

Thaddeus: Their fear is justified though. They’ve been burned so many times. But they look good this year. Their defense is hitting. Their offense is clicking. Their coaching feels stable. This might actually be their year to make noise.

Abby: The Rams slipping opened the door wide. And Chicago kicked that door open like they were filming an action movie. But the real test is December. December separates playoff teams from pretenders.

Thaddeus: And the AFC? Chaotic. Just flat-out chaotic. Every week you get a new “best team.” One week somebody looks like a Super Bowl contender, the next week they look like they forgot the rulebook.

Abby: Injuries are wrecking some teams. Weather games are about to start messing with others. Skill only gets you so far when you’re playing in wind, snow, and temperatures that make your eyelashes freeze.

Thaddeus: This is the time of year where depth matters. Coaching matters. Quarterback decision-making matters. Everything gets magnified. Teams that look confident now may fold. Teams that look shaky might suddenly catch fire.

Abby: There’s always that one team in the AFC that goes from “maybe” to “oh yeah, they’re ready.” Sometimes it’s Buffalo. Sometimes it’s Kansas City. Sometimes it’s a team nobody expected. But somebody is going to hit that late-season stride.

Thaddeus: And when they do, watch out. Momentum in December is more powerful than skill on paper. A hot team with belief is dangerous.

Abby: Which brings us back to the college football playoff because that’s where emotions run the highest. Every game right now feels like a movie climax. One mistake can cost a team everything. One win can rewrite a season.

Thaddeus: So let’s go on and just say it who do you trust most right now?

Abby: Honestly? I don’t fully trust ANYBODY. And that’s the fun of it. But if I HAD to pick, although it pains me to say this, I’d lean toward Ohio State. They just look the most stable.

Thaddeus: Stability wins championships. Flashy is cute but consistent is lethal.

Abby: But I’m still rooting for chaos. I want the underdog to smack the giant right in the nose. I want the committee sweating in real time. I want pandemonium.

Thaddeus: You stay messy. And I still respect it.

Abby: For basketball, I’m watching Arizona. For football, I’m watching Ohio State and Georgia. For the NFL, I’m watching Chicago and whoever decides to wake up in the AFC.

Thaddeus: And if we’ve learned anything this season? Expect the unexpected. The predictions we make right now could look dumb in two weeks, and that’s part of the job.

Abby: And we don’t mind looking dumb when the games are good. Bring the chaos. Bring the drama. Bring the storylines. Sports are supposed to make you feel something.

Thaddeus: That’s the beauty of it. You never know what’s coming, but you show up anyway. Every week. Every game. Every play.

Abby: And trust us we’ll be right here talking about it. Because this rollercoaster ain’t stopping anytime soon.

Thaddeus: Not even close.

Abby: And before we wrap this up let me just say this has been another solid session. We talked college football, college hoops, the NFL madness, and everything in between.

Thaddeus: Good energy, good conversation, good breakdowns exactly how we do it.

Abby: And thank y’all for rocking with us again. Sports Blazers stays lit because y’all keep showing up.

Thaddeus: We appreciate it more than you know.

Abby: And now, let me send y’all home right: For news, entertainment, and podcasts like this, log onto urbancitypodcast.com and download the Urban City Podcast app.

Thaddeus: I’m Thaddeus Myles.

Abby: And I’m Abby Sinclair, for urbancitypodcast.com

More than thirty individuals including current and former players and coaches from the National Basketball Association have been charged in a sweeping federal probe centered on illegal sports betting and underground gambling operations. What started as isolated rumors has turned into a full scale investigation exposing how insider information and organized crime can intersect with the game we all believe is fair.

Several high profile figures are at the heart of the case. One is a guard for the Miami Heat who allegedly provided nonpublic information about his status in games to co‐conspirators. Prosecutors say he informed others that he planned to leave a game early or would not reach his expected performance metrics. That tip enabled bettors to place large “unders” wagers expecting his statistical output to fall short. The counts he faces include conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to engage in money laundering. Another major figure is a Hall of Fame player turned head coach of one of the league’s teams who is accused of participating in an illegal poker operation tied to major organized crime families. The poker games reportedly used high-tech cheating methods like marked decks, hidden shufflers and even x-ray enabled tables. Victims believed they were playing fair games but courts say they were set up to lose.

Federal law enforcement describes two inter-connected schemes. The first involves NBA games and insider information. It covers multiple contests between 2022 and 2024 where injuries, lineup changes and game time reductions were allegedly tipped ahead of the public. One indictment identifies at least seven games where large bets were placed after secret information was passed along. The second scheme centers on underground poker games in major cities such as Las Vegas, New York and Miami. Organized crime figures allegedly tapped former athletes as “face cards” to entice wealthy gamblers into games rigged from the start. The combined illegal profits in these cases are estimated in the tens of millions of dollars.

When the league leadership announced the indictments they placed the key figures on administrative leave and pledged full cooperation with authorities. The statement emphasized that the integrity of the game remained their top priority. The timing of the arrests is particularly dramatic because legal sports betting has become widespread across the United States creating massive growth in revenue but also creating new vulnerabilities. Bettors count on having a fair shot but when individuals inside the system people with access to game plans, injuries, rotations and playing time begin feeding information into gambling systems, the promise of fairness falters.

For the Urban City audience this is not just a sports story. It is a systemic warning sign. Communities long accustomed to hustling and striving for opportunity must understand that legalized betting is being marketed as empowerment. But if the underdog is now competing in a game where insiders are rigging the odds, the barrier to entry just moved. Games once celebrated for competition and skill risk becoming arenas where secrets matter more than on-court performance.

The tale raises difficult questions. What happens when the same leagues that benefit financially from legal sports betting also face scandals tied to that very business? What safeguards exist to prevent players and team insiders from being drawn into schemes where they can profit off non‐public information? What happens to fans when they begin to believe outcomes might be manipulated rather than earned? Regulators and lawmakers are paying attention. Some members of Congress are calling for tighter federal controls on sports betting and for new rules to govern the kinds of bets players, coaches and insiders can influence. Industry observers expect major changes in how prop bets are monitored, how athlete injury data is disclosed and how sportsbooks flag suspicious wagering behavior.

The bottom line is this. Sports betting is no longer a niche pastime. It is a major business that moves billions of dollars and touches millions of lives. If the game of basketball becomes just another vehicle for gambling schemes, then fans, players and communities all lose. The stakes are high not just in the arena but in our neighborhoods and our culture.

As always the message remains the same for the Urban City Podcast listener: be vigilant, be informed, and never assume the game is fair just because it is televised. Real success still comes from discipline, effort and integrity. Betting may show up on your screen or your phone but the best bet you can make is on your own preparation and smarts. The system may be rigged but you do not have to be a victim. Stay sharp, stay real.

And you know how we close: we will keep it real and keep you informed right here on Urban City Podcast.
